The orientation
Ancestral Context ("we," "us," or "our") operates ancestralcontext.com. This policy describes what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is handled. We operate a small, focused practice — and our data practices reflect that. We collect only what is genuinely necessary to do the work.
By using this website, you agree to the practices described here.
02
Information we collect
We collect information in two ways: what you provide directly, and what is gathered automatically when you visit the site.
Information you provide
- Your name and email address when you submit an inquiry via the Inquire form
- Your email address when you subscribe to essays or the email list
- Your responses to the Ancestral Context Index™ diagnostic
- Any other information you voluntarily include in a message or form submission
Information collected automatically
- IP address and general geographic region
- Browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages visited, time spent on pages, and navigation patterns
- Referring URL (the page that brought you here)
03
How it is used
The information collected is used only for the purposes listed below. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it for purposes unrelated to the work.
- To respond to inquiries and assess whether there is a genuine fit for an engagement
- To send essays, updates, and communications you have subscribed to
- To understand how the site is used and improve its structure and content
- To process and interpret Index™ diagnostic responses
- To comply with applicable legal obligations
04
Sharing & disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only in the limited circumstances described here.
Service providers
We use third-party tools to operate the website and communications — including email service providers, analytics tools, and hosting infrastructure. These providers process data only on our behalf, under confidentiality obligations, and only to the extent necessary to provide their service.
Legal requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or other governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights or safety of Ancestral Context, our clients, or the public.
05
Email communications
We send two types of email: essays and updates to subscribers, and direct correspondence related to inquiries or active engagements. We do not send promotional email, urgency-based campaigns, or unsolicited marketing.
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You may also manage your preferences at any time via the email preferences page. Removing yourself from the subscriber list does not affect any active engagement correspondence.
06
Cookies & tracking
This site uses cookies and similar technologies to understand site usage and improve the experience. Specifically:
- Analytics cookies that track aggregate page views, session duration, and navigation paths
- Functional cookies that support site features like form submissions
- No advertising or retargeting cookies are used
You may control cookie behavior through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from using the site, though some functionality may be affected.
07
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as it is relevant to the purpose for which it was collected. Inquiry submissions are retained for the duration of any subsequent engagement and a reasonable period afterward. Subscriber email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form and not linked to individuals.
You may request deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us at the address below.
08
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- The right to access the personal information we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- The right to request deletion of your information
- The right to restrict or object to certain processing
- The right to data portability where technically feasible
- The right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@ancestralcontext.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.
09
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. This includes encrypted transmission (HTTPS), access controls, and working only with service providers who maintain appropriate security standards.
No transmission over the internet is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you of any breach that materially affects your information as required by applicable law.
10
Children
This website is not directed at children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be communicated to active subscribers by email. Continued use of the site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
